You really should blame the Japanese licensors. They've been delaying this forever, due to reverse importation. The pushbacks for Season 2 are even worse. Last year, I asked Lance Heiskell (Marketing director for Funi) when they planned to put out Season 2. He said they were planning to have it out by the end of 2011. Now 2012 is almost over, and it's still not entirely clear. you could just buy the JP BD, which has English subtitles and dub, but damn that yen exchange rate...

Um, 37.79 from Rightstuf, it says. It doesn't have anything past the first R1 release, nor the cool 501st patch that came with the first pressing. Funi is only doing limited edition items with first releases, not re-releases.

If it may be a bright side, I don't think (?) the 1st season was animated natively in HD. It was starting with the 2nd season. I haven't done a dedicated comparison, but with my upscaling BD player, it only looks marginally better, if at all.

I own the Japanese BDs and personally, I thought season one looked quite good on blu-ray, upscale or not. If you don't already own it or like to watch your favourite anime in the best possible quality, go for the blu-ray.

I'm going to HAVE to get the BD for s1 eventually though. Once I have the BD of s2 I can't have two different formats for the franchise. Asymmetry bugs the shit out of me.

The S2 BD is finally back on the scheduling track, after the delay. The art chosen for the LE chipboard box is quite fitting. The box is also designed to hold the BDs for both S1 and S2.

That blue thing, btw, is a topper held in place by the cellophane wrap, so that the SKU fits into place on store shelves designed for DVD. Yes, I've actually seen Strike Witches on the shelves at the local mall. Blew my mind.

Do you mean S1 or S2? If you mean S2, I see some merit, though I prefer having all the characters on it like this US cover since the bonds of the characters is what the show's all about.

If you mean S1, than the Japanese S1 BD Box cover is totally boring.

I saw the cheapass funimation s.a.v.e bluray sets out of the corner of my eye at the store and immediately grabbed them. First and last time I've bought anime in person.
