I have always been wondering,
how do they actually stand when their feet are inside the Striker Unit?

I assume they just hover very close to the ground

I imagine it's simply like wearing stilts.

Yeah but think about Season 1 Ep. 6, where Sanya Eila and Miyafuji take off
They are clearly standing and walking...
This is also visible in S2E6's Rocket Launch

From the side view of Striker Units, it seems standing with them on is quite difficult...

If I remember correctly, whenever the witches are in the Strikers and they are standing/hovering on the ground without any support, there is a magical circle on the ground, implying that maybe they stay upright because of magic.
And about that "standing/hovering" thing: in some scenes in the anime, they actually show that when they are on the ground there are wheels which retract inside the Strikers when they lift off.

Didn't the wheels get cut with a lot of other stuff from the OVA?

I think so, the OVA was very heavy on the technical side with Strikers having landing gear and equipment being heavy along with carrying enough ammo and strikers reflecting their real life counterparts (like a Zero out-turning another plane while the BF-109s where good a boom and zooms).

Unfortunately, the character design was fucking atrocious and I guess GONZO was in a one or the other mood.

The wheels were only in the OVA? For some reason I remember that the wheels could be seen in some scenes in the S2

The wheels were in S2 if I recall correctly.

I've seen landing gear cutouts in the spinner caps on some of my figures. Don't have them handy; I think the Alter Minna has them.
