Do any Witches get killed in action?

I don't think so, probably because Fumikane doesn't want to make the series grimdark.

it is implied in some scenes in the novels, but nothing concerning KIA is explicitly written out.

They do get serious injuries though.

Of course Witches can die in action, we've just never seen it written out. This is war, people die.

In volume 1 of Suomus Misfits Novels, Beurling explicitly states that her former rival died on the battlefield. Because of this, Beurling came to Suomus to die herself.

Even in the anime, it is mentioned that 504th JFW suffered heavy casualties in Operation Trajanus.

"Casualties" doesn't necessarily mean deaths, though.

>A casualty in military usage is a person in military service, not necessarily a combatant, who becomes unavailable for duty due to death, injury, illness, capture, desertion, etc.; or a civilian casualty.

>In civilian usage the word "casualty" is properly used for a person who is killed, wounded or injured by some event, and is usually used to describe multiple deaths and injuries due to violent incidents or disasters. Casualties is sometimes loosely used or (mis)understood to mean fatalities, but non-fatal injuries are also casualties.

I guess there's always someone like you in any community. Too autistic to interpret words correctly, even when citing a dictionary.
>usually used to describe multiple deaths and injuries due to violent incidents or disasters.

Witches can die, deal with it. Even though Fumikane said he doesn't want to kill any witches.

At least in Japanese Season 2 DVD booklet, there is no mention of "casualties".
It only states Junko, Fernandia, Luciana, Martina, Angela, and Dominica were "injured". (Vol1. Pg.90, if you'd care to look)
So no witch died in 504th's disastrous participation in Op. Trajanus.

IF there were deaths in 504th from the same operation, it'd have been from non-witch members of the JFW.
After all, there's few hundred to a thousand of regular troops in each JFW, if you'd refer to organization chart from Season 1 DVD booklet.
Of these regular male troops are aerial recon company, multiple fighter squadrons, and AA battery companies.
These combat oriented elements are likely to sustain at least some causalities if they were to engage the neuroi.
So 504th can sustain "causalities" without witches being killed.

That said, it doesn't mean witches don't get killed.
Like someone already mentioned, there's unnamed friend of Beurling.
And then there's Hosefa Mahriku, a friend of Laura Toth who appeared briefly in One Winged Witches and is presumed KIA after her garrison was destroyed.
Oh, and Gollob also has a dead witch friend, pic related.
So yeah, witches die, Humikane just doesn't want to show it.

It's the classic anime trope of "People can die, but only in the past."
>> No. 6168 ID: 9d463277
Are there seriously people in this thread who think death doesn't exist in the SW universe? Just because they want to keep the franchise lighthearted doesn't mean witches are somehow immortal beings.

This is just like the people who insist Pokemon can't die in-universe because your Pokemon can't die in the game, even though there are Pokemon grave sites and memorial towers in every region.

maybe we should all just pretend bitch hanna died

It would be an interesting project to take all the known witches and cross-reference them with their real life aces and see what percentage of the "Witches" should have died. In the 501st four out of the 11 witches were dead in real life by the time of the second season.

Not looking at any list or anything, I'd say over half of the witches should be dead then.

In before the usual smack talk, I always though Casualty meant death.

I mean "thought" sorry for being grammatically retarded.
